A Winters Garden

July 10, 2011

We’re in the middle of winter, and the tomatoes are loving it, so too the shallots and lettuce. Here’s a few pics of my no-dig garden in full bloom. Oh and somewhere in there is Asoka the chicken eating 28spotted Ladybeetles (the bane of my lettuce these things eat crops like you wouldn’t believe).  Such a good little chickie eating all those nasty bugs for us so we don’t spray. The lettuce this year has been sweet and crisp, just lovely.

I included the chicken tractor as well, it needs to be moved again, the chickens are scratching through the bindi patch eating all the bindi’s in our yard rather than us having spray poisons. The chickens do all the work and they think they’re getting the good stuff, it’s a win/win situation for us.
